After editing a preference directly in a table cell ensure you click out of the textbox input in order to accept the value before pressing the Ok button.

There are a lot of preferences that nobody but me will ever care about. Some are not really user preferences but just values that I was undecided on and wanted to provide some wiggle room.

Eg. stroke_width_{whatever} or colour_space_segments_{whatever} which can be used to modify the look of the application.

These have all been marked as ignore-me. You can safely ignore them if you are not a loser like me.

There are also preferences which are used to hold flags and values that are set by the user interface,

Eg. colour_space_show_{whatever}_names which are toggled from checkboxes on the CS options 5 tab or palette_entries_table_sorting which is changed by clicking the palette entry table headings.

These have all been marked as ui-ignore-me and you can safely ignore these too.

There are others which we may conceivably want to change such as: print_details, outliers_percent_upper/lower or show_palette_on_{whatever}

You may well be justified in saying many of these are also just as dull but I had to draw the line somewhere.

Non-project property preferences

The following table shows ordinary preferences which aren't also project properties:

align_on_new_canvas	boolean	false	If the current canvas image has been aligned then automatically align any new canvas image using the existing canvas marker positions. (The new image must be the same size as the previous one). This can save a few steps when we are using a camera tripod and a solid easel and we can repeat the same shot exactly. I don't use it as I often muck about with the canvas or camera and they don't quite line up as before. Besides, it doesn't take too long to check the marker pointers with COMMAND⌘ {cursor key} before doing each canvas image alignment with ALT⌥ SHIFT⇧ A.
auto_save	boolean	true for Macs	Project Auto save I always turn this off as I like to know when I'm saving a project and like to have the option of abandoning my changes. Though we can also do Project Revert to saved
autofit_on_canvas_align	boolean	true	Automatically fit the image to the control window after performing the action. Sometimes it's nice to retain the same pan and zoom context, for example, if we have a camera on a tripod pointing at our palette it's nice to be able to load shot after shot without the pan and zoom changing so our focus isn't changed. On the other hand if we are shooting hand held it can be nice to zoom out to see the full image before panning to the bit we are interested in. Regardless of the preference the program always does an autofit when a new image is of a different size.

Project property preferences

Some project properties also have associated preferences. When a new project is created these properties are initialised to their last set value. Changing the value in a project will change the preference for subsequent new projects. These only have an effect during the creation of a new project. Setting these preferences won't affect values in existing projects. Viewing old projects with different values also won't affect the preferences for new projects, but changing a value in a project will mean the next project will have that new value as a default.

Don't worry about it. It all just works out.

Action hotkey preferences

Many actions in the application can have hotkeys defined as preferences.

We can get a list of all the currently configured keystrokes with:

To define a keystroke add a preference with the prefix "keystroke_" and then the action name. For the value use a keystroke code with "CONTROL" "ALT" "SHIFT" and/or "COMMAND" and the letter, digit or virtual key code from this list: eg.

CONTROL ALT COMMAND A

Some synonyms for modifier keys also work, eg.

• "META" -> "COMMAND"
• "OPTION" -> "ALT"
• "CTRL" -> "CONTROL"

(case insensitive).

The COMMAND modifier isn't available on Windows because the OS intercepts it as soon as it's pressed.
