Project

N	New…⌘N	project_new	Create a new project. The current project may be saved or a save dialog may be displayed before a dialog for the new physical canvas dimensions is shown (see … ► Auto save below).
O	Open…⌘O	project_open	Open an existing project. Select a .bundle file (directory). The current project may be saved or a save dialog may be displayed before an open file dialog is shown (see … ► Auto save below).
R	Recent►	-	A sub-menu to open one of the last 10 (configurable) projects. The current project may be saved or a save dialog may be displayed before the project is opened (see … ► Auto save below).
N	Notes⇧⌘N	project_notes	Edit the project's notes.
S	Save⌘S	project_save	Save the project to its bundle. Enabled when the project already has a bundle and is dirty.
A	Save as…⇧⌘S	project_save_as	Save the project to a bundle. Project storage details.
	Auto save	project_auto_save	Toggle the automatic saves made when opening or creating a project or when exiting the program. It defaults to on for Macs and off for Windows, Linux and any others to match the common user expectations. When it is set to off and the project is dirty a dialog box will be displayed to ask if it should be saved. Much better.
V	Revert to saved	project_revert_to_saved	The same as re-opening the project without saving it.
L	Load an image►	-	Load a subject, palette or canvas image. A sub-menu.
	Save an image►	-	Save a filtered subject, palette or canvas image or a component view. A sub-menu.
Z	Resize…	project_resize	Change the size of the virtual canvas - when we decide on using a different size real canvas. Disabled when the layout is locked.
G	Print page setup…⇧⌘P	project_print_page_setup	Show a dialog to configure the imageable width and height of our printer and the chosen page orientation and printed overlap. The imageable area isn't the paper size as few printers can go right up to the edges and most have fairly sizable margins. This dialog also has controls to reset the print offset and image alignment markers. Disabled when the layout is locked. Further information.
P	Print…⌘P	project_print	Print the virtual canvas area (subject to the print offset). A warning will be shown if the project is not in the expected state.
Q	Exit⌥F4	project_exit	Not shown on Macs which have Quit ⌘Q in their application menus.

Project ► Load an image

Project ► Save an image

There's no need to save any images during the normal workflow. These only exist because, well… why not?

Some simple handy filters. I often use the Oil filter.
The others, particularly saturation filter , can be useful in analysing images and finding fresh perspectives on the subject.
If any sophisticated subject image editing is required we'll do it in a dedicated image editor such as GIMP before loading it.

Filters ► Subject warp

Not released yet (but very high-up on the list). These controls will allow us work from our own drawings rather than tracing the subject image and still be able to line up the canvas images so we can compare the colours to the subject. We will be able to do our own a free-hand drawing and then, as a one time task, warp the subject to match it and create alignment markers so that subsequent canvas alignments will work.

Palette

L	Load a palette…	palette_load_a_palette	The palette entry information for a particular image can be saved and loaded separately. This can be useful if we create colour charts for our available paints which can then be re-used in different projects. The whole palette for a project can also be saved and loaded into another project. I'm not exactly sure why we'd want to but we can.
I	Load a palette image…	palette_load_a_palette_image	Displays an open file dialog for a palette image. The same as Project ► Load an image ► Palette…
F	Find palette entries…⌘F	palette_find_palette_entries	Shows a dialog for searching for palette entries based on their: Name, Notes, Sequences or Source name. Useful if we want to batch edit or delete a selection of entries.
S	Save the image palette as…	palette_save_the_image_palette_as	Save the palette entries created from the current palette image. Charts of our available paints can then be reused in different projects.
P	Save the project palette as…	palette_save_the_project_palette_as	If we want. Why anyone would want to I forget.
T	Table columns…⌘T	palette_choose_the_table_columns	Select which columns we want to see in the Palette Entry Table. I like to set the columns to the minimum for my current task so they are not too scary or distracting. RGB This identifies the entry and can't be turned off. Name The name of the entry. This defaults to the nearest (ΔE2000) colour from wikipedia's Lists_of_colors page (a selection from sometime in 2018) but we can edit it to whatever we like. Notes String, notes as written by us. Source String, the entries parent image file or an operation such as "{average}" Source Info String, if the source was a file this shows the filters active at the time. Enabled Whether the entry should be used in the Paints layer. Available Marks that an entry is available as a mixing ingredient. Replacement An alternate colour which can be used for this entry in the Paints layer. Useful for all sorts of reasons discussed elsewhere. TODO Replacement colours page link Sequences A text value which represents the sequences this element is a member of and where in that sequence it resides. The value can be hand edited if we know what we're doing. The format is {name}:{index},{name}:{index},… The indexes don't have to be whole numbers which can help when we need to insert an entry. Grey-scale:2.5 TODO Sequences page link Pixels The number of pixels for this entry in the Paints layer. Red,Green,Blue RGB channel values. Luma The relative luminance. The weighted sum of gamma-corrected R′, G′, and B′ values. wikipedia, relative luminance Chroma The relative colourfulness. The colourfulness relative to the brightness of a similarly illuminated white. wikipedia Hue* The angular coordinate of the current colour space. Saturation* The radial coordinate of the current colour space. Brightness* The vertical coordinate of the current colour space. C1,C2,C3,C4,C5 Checkboxes which can be used for arbitrary marking and sorting needs.
N	New palette entry options►	-	A sub-menu.
A	Add a colour…	palette_add_a_colour	This shows a colour picker which we can use to add a new palette entry. If … ► Show a dialog has not been disabled another dialog will then be shown to edit other palette entry options. Further described here.
A	Add by CIEL*a*b* coordinates…	palette_add_by_cielab_coordinates	This shows a colour picker which we can use to add a new palette entry.
G	Generate colour strings…⇧⌘G	palette_generate_colour_strings	It's usual to select some palette entries before invoking this. This shows a colour string dialog for every consecutive pair of entries selected in the palette entry table in it's current sort order. These dialogs can be used to create a sequence of colours evenly spaced between two end points. If zero or only one entry is selected then the colours defined by the preferences tone_string_light and tone_string_dark will be considered to be selected too (defaults to titanium white and ivory black). 	Add subject colours…	palette_add_subject_colours	This shows a dialog asking how many colours to generate. The program then picks a spread of representative colours that (it hopes) will render the subject well. Further described here.
	Load named colours►	-	A sub-menu.
C	Load a cube palette…	palette_load_a_cube_palette	This generates a range of colours distributed evenly across the sRGB colour space. Further described here.
	Load Munsell chips…		A sub-menu.
	Select all⌘A	palette_select_all	Select all palette entries.
	Deselect all⇧⌘A	palette_select_all	Deselect all palette entries.
	Invert selection⇧⌘I	palette_select_all	Invert the palette entry selection.
E	Selected palette entries►	-	A sub-menu. Enabled when at least one palette entry is selected.
X	Remove the current palette image's entries	palette_remove_the_current_palette_images_entries	A shorthand item. It's often necessary to dismiss one palette image and all it's entries and replace it with another.

Palette ► New palette entry options

D	Show a dialog	palette_new_palette_entry_options_show_a_dialog	Show a dialog whenever a new palette entry is created. We don't need to see the dialog for every entry so we can turn this off and launch the dialog from the palette entry table when we do (double click the RGB cell or select the entry and hit enter).
E	Default to enabled	palette_new_palette_entry_options_default_to_enabled	Not every entry should be rendered into the Paints layer so I leave this off.
A	Default to available	palette_new_palette_entry_options_default_to_available	Not every entry is available to us as a paint or mix so I leave this off.
S	Default subject entries to enabled	palette_new_palette_entry_options_default_subject_entries_to_enabled	Entries created from the subject image are usually enabled target colours.
P	Default palette entries to available	palette_new_palette_entry_options_default_palette_entries_to_available	Entries created from the palette image are usually available paints.

Palette ► Selected palette entries ► Sequences

Sequences are used to organise related palette entries.

M	Make sequence…⌥⌘Q	palette_selected_palette_entries_sequences_make_sequence	Turn the selected palette entries into a sequence in the order they are currently shown on the palette entry table. A dialog will be displayed for the sequence name and start point. If some or all are already in the sequence they'll just get reordered. If the preference "remove_old_sequence_members" is set to true (the default) then any mention of the sequence name in other entries is removed. If the preference "sequence_by_select_order" is set to true the entries will appear in the sequence in the order that they were selected rather than their current ordering in the table. I don't use this as I find it confusing.

R	Remove from sequence…	palette_selected_palette_entries_sequences_remove_from_sequence

Palette ► Selected palette entries ► Replacement colours

C	Set⌥⌘S	palette_selected_palette_entries_replacement_colours_set	Set the replacement colour of the selected entry. Enabled when a single palette entry is selected.
C	Clear	palette_selected_palette_entries_replacement_colours_clear	Clear the replacement colours of the selected entries so the are displayed as their natural colour.
S	Saturate	palette_selected_palette_entries_replacement_colours_saturate	Saturates the replacement colour (in HSB).
D	Desaturate	palette_selected_palette_entries_replacement_colours_desaturate	Desaturates the replacement colour (in HSB).
R	Randomise	palette_selected_palette_entries_replacement_colours_randomise	Adds random replacement colours.
H	Random hue	palette_selected_palette_entries_replacement_colours_random_hue	Sets replacement colours with the same value and saturation as the effective colour but with a random hue.

C	Colour space⌥2 ⌥Z ⌥0	view_left_pane_colour_space	View the colour space in the left pane. If it's currently being displayed in the right pane the Palette 2 tab will be shown there.
T	Show tabs⇧⌘T	view_left_pane_show_tabs	Toggle the tags being displayed at the top of the left pane. There are better ways to change the view and they're taking up space.

View ► Right pane

C	Colour space⌘1	view_right_pane_colour_space	View the colour space in the right pane. If it's currently being displayed in the left pane the work area will be shown there.
P	Palette⌘2	view_right_pane_palette	Show the palette image and the palette entries table.
L	Layer controls⌘3	view_right_pane_layer_controls	Controls for the ordering and transparency of the layers in the work area. Layers can be re-ordered by dragging them by their names. The toggle buttons switch between displaying only the associated layer at full opacity or the full stack. The layers are discussed in UI layers
X	Comparison controls⌘4	view_right_pane_comparison_controls	Controls for rendering the comparison X layer and a widget to display the colour at the mouse pointer on the layers that are under comparison.
Z	Colour space options⌘5	view_right_pane_colour_space_options	Controls to show/hide elements in the colour space widget. Use the View menu to move the colour space widget to the left hand side to see immediate feedback when using the colour space options controls.

o	Outlines⌥O	view_work_area_layer_outlines	Show the Outlines layer. The outlines of the areas in the Paints layer. The colour of the outlines can be controlled from Miscellaneous ► Application colours ► outlines Each area has a one pixel outline so the outlines are effectively two pixels wide. It's sometimes easier to make sense of the outlines if they are not all the same colour. Special cases can be configured by setting the alpha channel to zero. transparent blue use the paint colour but darker transparent red use the paint colour but brighter transparent green use the paint colour but darker if it's bright or brighter if it's dark transparent white use a random colour transparent, anything else use the paint colour

View ► Colour space

7	View 75⌥5	view_colour_space_view_75	Viewing the colour space the tilt set to 75 degrees gives a good sense of its three dimensionality.

Work area

G	Set grid size…	work_area_set_grid_size	Set the line spacing of a grid drawn over the work area. The size should be specified in points which will be 1/72nd of an inch with respect to the specified canvas size (28.346 = 1cm) (nearly). 0 is off. By default grid lines are painted with cmk_grid_line [dark red].
S	Show subject palette entries	work_area_show_subject_palette_entries	Toggle the visibility of subject palette entries. Entries are only shown if they were created from the current subject image in its current filter state. By default subject palette entries are enabled and enabled palette entries are coloured cmk_palette_entry_border [blue].
C	Show canvas palette entries	work_area_show_canvas_palette_entries	Toggle the visibility of canvas palette entries. Entries are only shown if they were created from the current canvas image in its current filter state. By default canvas palette entries are disabled and disabled palette entries are coloured cmk_palette_entry_border_disabled [grey].
E	Show selected palette entries	work_area_show_selected_palette_entries	Toggle the visibility of selected palette entries. Entries are only shown if they were created from one of the current images regardless of its current filter state. By default selected palette entries are coloured cmk_palette_entry_border_selected [red].
	Show palette samples	work_area_show_palette_samples	Toggle the visibility of the samples of the selected palette entries.
	Show palette sample lines	work_area_show_palette_sample_lines	Toggle the visibility of the lines connecting the samples of the selected palette entries to their selection areas, if any.
3	Show rule of thirds	work_area_show_rule_of_thirds	Toggle the visibility of rule of thirds guide lines. By default rule of thirds guide lines are cmk_rule_of_thirds_line [dark red].
B	Show print page boundaries	work_area_show_print_page_boundaries	Toggle the visibility of print page boundaries. These are always shown when repositioning them with CONTROL ⌘ drag . By default print page boundaries are coloured cmk_bounds_print_page [green (mughal)].
A	Show page alignment markers	work_area_show_page_alignment_markers	Toggle the visibility of page alignment markers. These are always shown in printouts.
M	Show image alignment markers	work_area_show_image_alignment_markers	Toggle the visibility of the image alignment markers. Enabled when the layout is locked. (The markers are always visible when the layout is not locked). These are always shown in printouts (if in bounds).
